Some memories etch themselves into our hearts — and for me, this was one of them.

I had just graduated high school, and we were sitting on my mother’s bed when she handed me a small velvet box.

Inside was a delicate necklace with a shining gemstone.

“This is moissanite,” she said as she fastened it around my neck. “It shines just as brightly as a diamond, but what makes it special is how it never loses its fire. Just like you. No matter where life takes you, always keep that light.”

Over time, this necklace came to mean so much more than just an accessory. Whenever I touched the moissanite, it reminded me of her words — a quiet promise to stay true to who I am and to keep going, even when things felt uncertain. It became a symbol of strength and light, something I carried with me through every new beginning, as if a small part of home was always resting just above my heart.
